  • Old Church Pew

    Old Church Pew

The summer of scrabble and sunshine showers broughtCold brew, and road trips, and youI can still see us there, giggling like girlsSinging hymns in the old church pew. We pass notes and whispers, Bread, wineWe’re sisters Singing hymns in the old church pew  The clock has marched on someI can still hear those hymns sungBetween giggles Continue reading

  • Moving Out (But Never On)

    Moving Out (But Never On)

There’s cardboard boxes by the front doorWho’d have thought I’d miss our creaky floors?Or the oven that can’t roast a thing, the way we sweat our way through spring, the moments are flying by It took three months to take our tree downThe kitchen stools would break when they went ’roundThose walls heard all our birthday songs,The Continue reading

  • Crumbs of Glory

    Crumbs of Glory

If I had been in EgyptWhen the Israelites had fled,I don’t know how Passover Would taste without the bread. Would I ask for extra parsley?Or get seconds of the lamb?Or would I simply sit thereAnd reflect on Abraham.  If I had wandered 40 years In that wide wilderness,Would the heaven’s manna Make me hunger any less? It’s not like I Continue reading

    17

I’ll cheer you on from afarThrough likes on your graduation posts. One day, on your wedding and children. The occasional comment(If I’m feeling brave). Or prayers for you on my walk to classOr vague updates to my mom when she lovingly asks me how you’re doing, and I realize I don’t know enough about your life anymore Continue reading

  • Manna: A Reflection on 2024

    Manna: A Reflection on 2024

I’ve never been a huge fan of New Year’s Eve, but New Year’s Day is one of my all-time favorite holidays (After Valentine’s Day, of course. Christmas and Easter are in a separate category duh). As much as I mourn endings, I love the feeling of a fresh start: The leaf turned over, the slate Continue reading

  • Linger Long

    Linger Long

Won’t you linger long with meand hang on every word?Won’t you let your coffee cooland let me just be heard? For sitting here with youreminds me of the Faithful OneWho ready stays and listens to us,constant as the sun. In this way your presenceis a shade of Christ on Earthwhere Heaven has touched downand Love Continue reading

  • Pruning: A Reflection on 2023

    Pruning: A Reflection on 2023

Like most people, I’m not very good at keeping New Year’s resolutions. At the first sign of a new environment, new challenge, new mindset, I can abandon my lofty aspirations and settle into a “just be better than last year” mentality instead of pinpointing specific areas in which I want to grow exponentially.  In an Continue reading

  • Where the Heart Is

    Where the Heart Is

I’m grateful to have so many places that feel like home. After living my entire life in the same neighborhood—5 minutes from my school and 20 minutes from my church—I was both excited to leave home and terrified that I wouldn’t be “known” in the same way that I had been in Dallas (and thus, Continue reading

27 (more) Ways to Say “I Love You”

Without saying the words “I Love You” 1. Wanna come? 2. I’m so grateful for you 3. Let me pay for that 4. I can drive 5. I remembered your order 6. I completely understand 7. Can I help you with that? 8. I really admire you 9. You’re doing great 10. Remind me to Continue reading

  • 4 Lessons in Love

    4 Lessons in Love

“Any love I’ve ever given you is yours to keep.” I’ve been on a huge Pinterest kick recently (partly because it makes me feel like I have my life together, partly because it’s extremely therapeutic for me) and this quote came across my feed and absolutely knocked me over. I’ve been pondering it for probably Continue reading

  • Fully Known, Yet Fully Loved: A Reflection on 2022

Fully Known, Yet Fully Loved: A Reflection on 2022

“Fully known & fully loved.” When I visited two of my closest friends earlier this month, we played a game in which they both independently identified this as my life motto based on a conversation we had months ago. Despite this sentiment of mine living rent-free in my mind for years, I had hardly considered Continue reading

About Me

Thanks for stopping by! Chances are, I already know you, or we’re about to know each other really well. My name is Katherine Novakovich and, for better or for worse, you’re about to catch a glimpse of my mind. I’m a student at Northwestern University studying literature, education, history, and Classics, and trying my hardest to realize life while I live it–every, every minute.

These posts are primarily ramblings from my head that I had to write down before they drove me crazy, but I hope you find them as enrapturing as I have. Not everything posted here is perfectly polished, nor is it set in stone, but my thoughts aren’t either (and I think that’s okay!). I appreciate you taking the time to read parts of my inner monologue, and I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions on my thoughts and opinions if you’d be willing. Let’s learn from each other!
